Hey guys. Tylo here with my ‘92 GTO
I want to paint my washer arms as they are crappy and starting to rust. How do I get em loose. Just a good yank? Perhaps jam a screwdriver behind and pull? Any advice would be appreciated!!

The arms are on a tapered and splined shaft. Using a screwdriver will only do damage. There is a proper puller tool but 9 times out of 10, you can spray a bit of wd40 in the hole and then just pull and push on the arm to free it.
Thanks Joe, I should be able to get it off with the wd40. If not ai think the puller tool is $12 if I can’t get. Supposed to rain here today so I will give it a shot tomorrow. Much appreciated!
Out of curiosity, whatcha gonna spray em with? Mine are blah too and I already own the tool!
I’m going to sand them down, hit them with two or three coats of primer, light coat to heavier coats. Wait ten minutes between coats. Then the same with the base coat black three times, then finally again two or three coats of the clear coat and all set. Wait a day or so to dry and then all set! Ohh, and I plan on hanging the washer arms in the air by a wire or something so they are hanging while i spray.
Coool!!! I may have to do the same!
I normally clean mine down 1 yearly where they get sandblasted clean down and primed etc. etc. etc. and still they rust after 1 year… The climate here is just too harsh
The original coating was powder coat I think. It is much more durable and if done to the correct thickness, it will look like factory finish.
Before you pull them off, make a mark so you know where to put them back on. I pulled mine off my Kia without marking them, it looked so goofy when I randomly put them on, I had to take them off and put them back on a second time. I had to replace those plastic clips a second time because I didn’t know how to properly take them off without breaking them. Waste of time and money. At least now I know I’m not sure what the 3000gts design is like, I haven’t needed to do it on my 3000GT yet, just wanted to mention it and hopefully get you to avoid the same issue I had.
Argh! Can’t seem to remove it even with the wd40. I feel like I’m going to break something or do damage when trying to force it. Perhaps my best bet it to just get the tool at my local parts store and get it done this week. I really appreciate all of the help and responses. You guys are the best
When I did my rear wiper delete I had the same problem, but there’s an easy fix. Get a heat resistant cloth of some sort (cotton might actually do) wrapped round where the shaft comes through the scuttle panel and gently warm it up with a hot air gun. The rapid expansion of the alloy will free it off in no time.
This sounds like a great idea to get it off and preventing any damage. I will give it a shot tomorrow
