Timing problem?

Hello all my name is Lee. I have a 1998 GRO SR.

My car has started to run rough. I linked up a scanner and its saying the problem is the Crankshaft Position sensor. I have ordered a new sensor. I just checked my timing belt and noticed that the dots are not lined up. I am trying to get my head around this, does this look like it could be a major problem? Thanks.

Dots not lining up is a critical problem. Is your crank dot lined up properly first and are you on tdc for piston 1. The dots will be in different positions depending on what part of the cycle you are in.

I did a video on setting up timing belt which has been useful to a lot of people. It may be worth checking it out if you aren’t sure what to look for.

Hi Joe, thanks for the reply. Just used your video for help and I think all is ok. I counted the marked teeth to compare to the one in your video and it all matches. Hopefully the new cam position sensor will fix the problem. Thanks again, hope you had a nice Christmas and new year.
