Specialists North East

Hi,

Just wondered if there is any specialists located in the North East or just someone who has plenty of knowledge of working on these cars to come out and look at my car.

It’s slowly and slowly getting worse to the point now where it no longer runs and we can’t figure out why.

Originally was getting worked on because it was stalling at stops,
It then started running rough on idle after that it stopped getting fuel, the MFI relay was swapped and then it started up and idled fine, on next start it started up fine then after a while suddenly died and now it’ll fire up but die straight away.

IAC has been changed, throttle body cleaned, MFI relay changed, new plugs all round

suggest checking fuel pump, fuel pressure, fuel filter ,fuel rail etc but work safely when working with fuel obviously. Does it run better on a full tank etc You could save a lot of money if you get it properly diagnosed so you are asking the right questions.

Thanks, hoping there is someone that can look at it, I took the ECU out and its had a repair in the past but a bad one at that however the continuity for all the capacitors are good but I’ve ordered a new ECU anyway just to be safe. Fuel wise I’m unsure will need to check it once I’ve put the ECU back in however it has been running very rich and we have good spark on all cylinders.

I posted up some pics and video from a diagnostic tool I bought a couple of years back. They show details of my car running at idle in a warm garage. It starts perfectly every time and the fuel trims are excellent or so I have been told. If you do manage to get it diagnosed it should provide some good reference material. A guy on that site was selling diagnostic equipment specifically for the 3000GT, GTO or Stealth etc. He made them himself but I can’t remember how much… probably cheaper than a new ECU :grinning: Anyone serious about our cars should imho get one of these. could save you a fortune. Blackstealth was the member I bought my diag tool from but not sure if he’s still making them. scroll about a third down the page for my posts. my username comes up as “V” my cars data You may have sticky/leaking injectors but I would strongly advise diagnosis first . Running too rich for too long could clog your cat and make it run even worse. Good luck

Yep he’s still selling them … they are more of a scanning tool but will help in diagnosis. He is reliable and ships from Canada. I got mine after waiting about 10 days to England. Plenty of instructions etc.

latest post …scroll down here PM him for info. I think I paid via paypal

Hi, I too have a mk1 t/t 1990, and have difficulty finding a decent mechanic to work on the car, mine runs rich and ticks over at 1500 rpm, hope you get sorted.

yours sounds like a vacuum leak. check for split or cracked/loose vacuum hoses. It’s a free check. or maybe a broken idle control valve.

Have you checked the idil adjustment screw on the throttle body? Also the throttle body gasket aw a horror one the other week someone used gasket seal on the throttle body and blocked the small breather holes and charged the guy for new gaskets all round and just used instant gasket

Check Crank Angle Position Sensor.
