Hello all my name is: Chris.
I just fitted new crankshaft, bearings, oil pump, all new belts.
I removed the spark plugs to reduce the load on the crank while cranking the engine until oil has reached the crank and bearings.
On cranking I do not see any pressure registering on the gauge. No oil light on dash before or after cranking.
I cleaned the contact wire to the sender unit. Does this unit supply the oil light and the gauge?
All advice welcome.
Theres an oil pressure sender which is a sort of bulb shape and the electrical connection is rubbish and just slides on, and there is also an oil pressure light switch.
Thanks for reply. After cranking the engine for a while, there does not seem to be oil in the filter or the oil cooler pipes. Do I have to prime the new oil pump and fill the cooler with oil?
The type of bulb sensor with the slide on connector screws into the oil pump housing and the connector was cleaned.
I am not sure that before the rebuild that the oil light ever came on.I am checking the bulb in the instrument cluster next.
This bulb sensor is it for the oil light only?
where does the oil pressure gauge get its signal from. The manual is not easy to find information about this topic.
I do not want to start the engine without being sure the crank has oil pressure feed.
The bulb type is for the gauge. The other if for the ECU.
The bulb type is for the pressure gauge in the dash, the other connector is a low oil pressure switch that triggers the red light of doom on the dashboard.
I understand where the bulb is on the side of the oil pump.
I remove Speedo cluster and tested the oil light bulb,it works. So what does this bulb connect to so that I can check why the oil light does not come on when the ignition is turned on.

I have removed alternator and Aircon compressor. Then removed the housing that connects the oil filter,oil cooler pipes to the oil pump but after cranking with the plugs removed no traces of oil.
After cranking the new oil pump has to suck up oil and fill the oil cooler and the filter housing but there were no signs of oil in these parts only in the filter which I filled when fitted.
Will the oil pump only prime the engine and cooler is running? Does it need more speed than on cranking with the plugs removed.
Also what is the large nut/plug on the oil filter housing,see photo.
In that picture the connector for the oil pressure gauge isnt on the sensor.
The thing on the side is the oil cooler bypass valve.
The large nut/plug you’re asking about on the oil filter housing is the thermal relief valve; it opens when oil gets to a certain temp and sends oil to the cooler (like a thermostat for the oil).
