Hello all my name is: Chris
I have a: GTO Mk2.
There is an aluminium pipe loop in front of the radiator/condenser. It is leaking a small amount of oil. I cannot see where I need to remove this item. Also I do not see any used parts advertised?
I am guessing this cools oil in the transmission?
NO HELP WILL BE GIVEN WITHOUT PROVIDING AS MUCH INFORMATION AS POSSIBLE RELATING TO YOUR ISSUE
It does sound like the oil cooler but a picture would help to identify or you could look in the manual.
There are a number of people on ebay selling parts for these cars but be warned that the price for some hard to get parts is climbing rapidly.
It is the power steering oil cooler loop, they usually corrode where they are secured by a bracket to the upright in the middle.
It is an awkward part to remove and refit as there isnt much room to get the pipes off and I think, maybe, the fronr bumper needs to come off. It isnt a high pressure line so you could in theory repair it by cutting out the bad and replacing with some hose and fuel line clips.
Where are you based, as it would be difficult to post but I have a spare used one that isnt leaking. I’m in Doncaster/Sheffield. You can also try Wayne at JapAttack as he might have one or more too.
Thanks for the reply. The front bumper is off at present so I will try to remove or repair. I am in Devon but have a good friend in Sheffield who could collect from you.It is corroded near the horn bracket. I will try to repair or replace with 10 mm copper pipe first. If this will not join without leaks I will message you about the one you have. Thanks for advice.
For other members who may read this it would be wise to cut a section of plastic hose with 10 mm bore, about 100mm long, cut it length wise and fix over the aluminium pipe so the pipe does not rub against the horn bracket upright stand which may have caused the galvanic corrosion of the aluminium pipe. Will save a lot of work if it does corrode and leak. I think this can be done with bumper in situ.
If it is the power steering cooler tube - they are available new from Mitsubishi- I swapped my leaking one the other year for brand new - and yes it was bumper and crash bar off to give room etc…
