Hi Enda,
I Imported my 1993 GTO from Scotland, It was heading towards breaking when i saved it. It has failed the MOT on a number of elements all down to the dreaded R word. So i’m looking at a complete overhaul. The engine appears to be in good shape, Clutch and after market exhaust are OK. Currently she is on jack stands and i’m stripping both bumpers and side trim open complete access to underside so I can see just how extensive the rust is. From what i can see some parts of the pan have large holes and there’s rust just about everywhere I look.
It would appear that someone sprayed or painted over the entire underside with some kind of thick black rubber type stuff to hide all of the rust, including the wheel arches then probably sold it on. The guy I bought the car from told me there was considerable rust underneath and that he would break the car if he couldn’t sell it.
So using Joe’s video’s as guides i’m doing a complete strip down, then sandblasting the entire underneath so I can access the damage, then its cut out all of the rot and weld in new material.
All of that before I even get top side which needs considerable work too including Suspension, brakes and complete respray. That’s not including the interior which has the infamous dash vents bulging.
Yes, this certainly is going to be a labour of love over the next few years, but, if I can restore her,
What a Car !
Hi Peter , a lot of the UK cars suffer from rust, especially if they were imported from Japan. Not sure if my car was ever in the UK but it is an import (Gto). I was lucky enough to find a solid car which had just been resprayed. I’m hoping to have her on the road early next year. I completely redone the interior this year with leather, soundproofing and dash vents and another dozen or so things that popped their heads up once I stripped it out.
Service and a few mechanicals next and hopefully shes a good one🤞

Hi Enda, Did you do the leather upgrade yourself or did you get it done professionally ?
Love to see a photo of it.
A local guy did the leather for me, know him years , he’s good and not expensive. He’s in Edenderry, I can give you his details if you like.

Nicely done Enda
Wow Enda, Nice job, looks fab. Yeah send me his details. When I get to the interior I’ll reach out to him.
Thanks
Would you mind putting his details in the repair and restoration services section if he would like some more work. It looks like a nice job and if you recommend him, we can all benifit. Thanks
Did you see the MK4 up on DoneDeal for 25K!
Yes I did, Its a stunning car, but i’m not sure he is going to get the asking price.
