O2 sensor replacement

Hey guys…

I am about to replace my O2 sensors, but before doing it I just wanted to ask if anybody has some good advice with regards to replacing them… Have heard so many horror stories about difficulty with replacing those sensors, so I just want to get as much helpful information on it if possible

Personally I would spray it with a penetrant oil, then bring it to temp(Or after you get back from, driving somewhere), spray it again and let it cool off. This is what I have had luck with on any of my automobiles.

These things can be a real pig to get out. You didn’t say what tools are avaliable to you. Personally, I would consider popping along to the local garage and ask them to loosen it off for you using acetylene to get it really hot. If you try it yourself without any luck, you could end up doing damage to the head which will make it even harder to get out. It shouldn’t cost more than a couple of £ to have someone loosen it for you.

Yeah good point Joe with regarding tools… I have of course all the traditional tools and the special socket for the sensor/wire, but I also have a proper induction heater which a garage friend has lent me… Just still want to be completely prepared, as I know that those things can get properly stuck in there, and I really want to avoid ruining the threads and having to take off the manifold cuz of that

Induction heaters are a great tool and I use mine a lot. You may get lucky using it. I find that it will work on about 50% of the sensors that I try it on.

When you manage to remove it make sure a smear of copper grease on the threads makes future removal easy.
