Hi, I have recently installed some new headlights and they have LED halo’s fitted to them.
The standard bulbs fit and work as normal but the halo’s have 2 wires that need to be attached to work.
The guy I got them off said to just fit the spade end wire to the side lights and earth the circle end wire. I have done this but can’t get it to work.
I have asked another person who has them fitted and he said ''1 wire for power off a 12v source the other for ground".
I am rubbish with electronics - does this mean I need something else to get them to work or anyone have any ideas what i can do?
So the +ve connection goes to that of the indicator (GTO) as you have discovered and the -ve you can just bolt down to the car - so run through the one of the bolts that attach the lights to the car
Ok, so just tried that but they still won’t come on - I have attached a picture of the other wire (+ve) attached to the spare wire on the indicator. The guy who I got them off shown me a picture of them working (linked up to a battery). I just don’t know what I am doing wrong?
It would be better to start a fresh with this because there seems to be some confusion.
Firstly, I am going to assume that you have standard UK lights on your car and not north American with Amber corner markers.
Put all of your wiring back to standard and check that everything still works.
Now connect your halos directly to a battery to confirm that they still work. Red + wire goes to battery +. Black or negative wire goes to - on battery.
If everything works, you are ready to begin.
The next thing to decide is, when do you want the halos to come on. Do you want them to flash with your indicators or come on as white side lights?
If you want them as indicators we will only be looking and talking about the 2 wires that presently go to your indicators on each side. If you are using them as side/driving lights you will be looking for the 2 wires on each side that went to your original white side lights.
Now connect the black /negative wire from your halos directly to the chassis of the vehicle. There must be a perfect metal to metal contact or it won’t work. I prefer to use the original negative wire for the connection but the chassis can be used if you prefer.
DO Not cut through any of the original wiring of the car.
Now connect the positive wire from the halo to the positive wire of either the side light or indicator light (depending on which you wish to use) using a splicing connection. There is no need to cut any wires.
Repeat this for each side.
The halo will now flash when you turn on your indicator or remain constantly lit if you have connected to your side lights (when you turn your side lights on) . If you want to disable your original indicator or side light, just remove the bulb.
I hope this solves the problem.
