Hey folks… I just recently purchased a new harmonic balancer from our fantastic @Joe90 in my pursuit of getting my engine back to running properly again.
The symptoms I have been trying to figure out were:
A sound that sounded like a worn throwout bearing.
A clicking down in the engine when cold at low revs, but would not come when the weather was hot
A high pitch which only came after driving at highway speed and slowly reducing speed…
These things have almost made me crazy in my pursuit in where on the engine they were coming from, and today I changed my old harmonic balancer and installed the new one, and have a look at these pictures of how my old one looks like:
The old one does not even look like it is in bad shape, but after changing it and when I started the engine ALL the sounds were gone… It was all coming from this part, so you guys who have not purchased 1 of the new harmonic balancer from @Joe90 and are driving around with the old one, then I seriously recommend that you get one as these things have been a nightmare to find!!!
The replacement of it was easier then changing spark plugs (that is the front row of plugs, not the funny rear ones), the only thing that was a pain in the was removing and installing the plastic that sits inside the wheel arch.
