GTO Engine tick over sound

Hello again Joe.
Thank you very much for your concern.
I just purchased a GTO from a guy called IBRAHIM. He says that he’s a friend of yours.
Anyway, he sold me a V6 Twin Turbo, and i am suspicious of the sound that the engine makes.
I have been watching your Videos, and i am really impressed by your work.
I then thought that i should get in touch with you and ask if you could take a look at her, as i am very concerned about the way she sounds.
I hope that you can help me in any way that you can, please Joe.

Thank you very much. My Number is 07766 07 00 72

I’m fairly new to the gto scene, but my experience these are common for lifter tick. I Think the lifters can be dismantled and cleaned or you can replace them I believe the mk1 has the smaller bore oil flow on the lifters causing them to clog up easier newer ones I believe are a 3mm hole

That’s even if it’s the lifters making the noise

I sometimes have engine lifter tick on start up but goes away after the engine warms up. An oil change may help, using good quality FS oil.

When I first got mine, it has a really loud tick. But when I did a proper service with the correct oil and changed the valve cover gaskets, the tick has 95% gone. You’d really have to listen for it. Maybe upload a video to YouTube and post a video on here so we can get an idea

The ticks can come from so many places… As many say, it can be the lifters, it can also be one or some of the belt bearings that have gone bad, can also be the alternator or even it can come from the throw out bearing in the transmission (that bearing can also be pretty loud)

Try to isolate where the sound is coming from first, as that helps alot… And as cableguy said, try changing the oil and oil filter to the recommended ones … (that has often also solved engine ticks)

The throw out bearing tick can be isolated by pressing in the clutch, and it should disappear.
The tick/s from the different belt bearings can change pitch from idle and up, and they can even go away in a certain range … Try running your car and see if there is any change in tick pitch when putting on a few rews (no need to redline it though)

Thanks a lot everyone for your knowledge.
I have now arranged to have it looked at.
I am also new to GTOs and this my 1st forum.
I will give you an update on how it all goes…soon.
