Do snake eyes originally light up?

Since I bought my 1991 3000GT I’ve been trying to turn on the snake eyes, I’ve already made combinations with the mile and headlight buttons without success. I looked online and saw several posts and videos on how to install LEDs in them. My question is whether they originally light up or not.

Looking at its transparent structure on the side that makes contact with the headlights, I imagined that if the headlights were in flashlight without lifting them, they could stay on. I don’t know if this is what happens.

Thanks a Lot

It depends whether your car is a 1st gen 3000GT or a GTO. Only the GTO version light up as parking lights. You can also tell by looking at lights to see which version of lights you have, in case someone has changed them previously. On the GTO version you can see where the bulb is whereas the GT looks the same all across.

Several people have modified them and put LED in like you mention, I myself however don’t have any input to give on that topic.

Joe did a video on installing a led strip in that snake eye len. I installed the strips. I like them. In the states, if you flash your high beams with 1st gen pop up lights down, the high beam will flash through that len. As I understand, it was designed to flash a car in front of your car when passing a car.

I just took the test and it’s exactly as it says. It is used to give the blinker!!

Thank you very much

North American cars like my 92 SOHC have unlit snake eyes. I still have them, but sold the car
