Clutch Master Cylinder Refurbish

Hello all my name is Lee, I have a 1998 Mitsubishi GTO SR. As this part is obsolete now, I have decided to refurbish an old one I kept. I have bought an OEM Spring kit to replace the old one with. The only problem is I can’t get the old one out. It pushes in as it should but I can’t figure out getting it out. Ive tried using compressed air to blast it out but no joy.

Does anyone have any idea how I can do this? thanks

I haven’t done one of these for many years but I thought there was a split ring holding it in.

Hi Joe, there was a split ring - I removed that. I thought it would come out easily after I removed it. I can’t see anything to help bring the piston/spring out - it’s just wedged in so tightly. This master cylinder is different to other gto/3000gt cylinders too - there is literally non for sale anywhere / no alternative. thanks

Its sorted! I just kept pushing it in as hard as possible many, many times and eventually it pushed out so much I could get some leverage with a screwdriver to pull it out! thanks

You can still buy the clutch cylinder, not OEM, but last year I replaced mine with a Blueprint one, which, as you may or may not know, Blue are part of Febi, and the quality is good. And compared to the price of what Mitsi would be now, they’re a bargain and no sodding about changing inner bits.

Literally can’t find the right one anywear. For the SR - the part is different form all other 3000gt/GTOs. the bracket is on an angle - all other master cylinders have a straight bracket. Ive realised refurbishing one isn’t too hard so not all is lost. cheers
