Hello all my name is Daniel
I have a GTO, NA, 1990
since ive gotten the car the clock hasn’t worked, im going to take off the dash sooon, but i want to get a number of things ready to get done for when i take it off as it looks like a bit of a process.
if anyone knows what the problem is by the state of the screen that would be a bit help
also the platsic infront of the three gages have gotten all foggy, the camera doesnt pick it up well but its very noticeable in person.
if anyone knows a trick to get it off i would love to hear it, just looking for so opinions about this so cheers
The clock almost looks like it has moisture damage. I’m betting when you pull the dash and pop the center cluster out, you’ll see corrosion on the clock board or connector. The clock itself is a self-contained unit (has its own plug and is basically a sealed cube inside the cluster).
As for the fogginess of the outer lens of the center cluster housing; you’ll need to remove it to look at the clock board itself, I’d try wiping it out with a clean dry cloth to see if you can get any reside out of it. I’d avoid cleaners/chemcials as they may exacerbate the issue with the lens. Worst case, you could try polishing the inside and outside of the lens (similar to how folks do kebab headlight restoration) to restore the visibility through the outer lens of the center cluster.
