Hi Guys,I wonder could someone advise me on the following. I am in the middle of refurbishing my front Brake calipers and having searched online I am getting conflicting information regarding what to put on the brake pistons when re-assemling them back into the Calipers. as per picture from Youtube.
Some are saying Use brake fluid only, others say Brake assembly grease or other such.
Can anyone please advise ?
Personally I’d be using grease to lube the seals and rubbers, then brake fluid to coat the pistons before assembling it all. You need the grease on for the initial assembly before the brake fluid takes over imho
I have no idea if this is the official way to re-assemble any hydraulic system but personally from experience I have to agree with vtecgrin,
I have always used the Red brake paste on any seals during re-assembly for brake or clutch hydraulics slave cylinders, master cylinders and callipers, I also add a smear of brake fluid on the pistons and inside the callipers before inserting the pistons, also a smear of assembly paste on the piston dust covers where they meet the pistons and the callipers
Ok so I use both. I add a smear of brake fluid inside the callipers before inserting the pistons, but smear assembly paste on the piston and dust covers where they meet the pistons and the callipers. Great stuff thanks guys.
I’ll see if my motor factors has that red grease,
