Hello everyone. My name is Alexander Nash from south FL in USA. I was hoping to find some opinions about either restoring, if possible, or deleting the AWS system found on the Z16. I own an imported 94 Z16 twin turbo equipped with the AWS system. I find that a lot of people delete this option. Why?
Most people delete because they don’t know where to get the right parts to repair the system. I would never delete myself. It will lower the cars value and not handle as well on tight corners.
I am sure that other people will have a different opinion though.
People delete them as the lines can rust and burst. The replacement lines aren’t readily available- however, they can be re-made with the correct flare tools etc… all of this adds cost and if you’re relying on a garage to do it - things can get expensive. The delete kits remove all this hassle. However, I personally have kept mine and will be refurbishing it soon - making all new lines where needed.
I would love to see a DIY restoration video on this as I would like to keep mine in as well. Is there a common area in the system that has more stress? Are the lines the issue or something else? If the lines are the issue, what type of lines would be a good replacement?
mr cars dont have it so how can deleting it cause handling issues ?
It will not cause an issue. It just means that the car will not corner as well as the cars that are fitted with aws.
I had the same options and i am glad i decided to restore it. i found the handling miles better. It was taken off when i first got it. So i have had with and without making things lighter not always the best option
I have found a leak coming from the rear left side. The boot is covered with fluid. Any ideas how to fix this?
Hi - same here looking to restore AWS on my ‘93 VR4. Can you tell me if you came across any good tutorial videos on this? Thanks! -Eric
In case you’re still looking to get your AWS back - Joe says will be doing a video on replacing the high and low pressure lines.
Just to update you on this post.
It is my understanding that the lines are no longer available. Delete kits are available or you may be able to get a hydraulics company to cobble something together.
This is not one of my preferred options so I just invested a shit load of money in the machinery and parts to start production of the original lines again. I am still a couple of months away from production as some of the fittings are being custom made. When the lines are ready, I will do a video on how to replace them.
Thanks for the update Joe. Love it! You da man! I hate deleting stuff too, so I’m really glad you are following thru on this. Please keep us posted.
Very exciting news Joe, the AWS gives these cars a very hard turn in feel which I think i’d miss if I deleted it!
