Hello,
Im writing about my 95 SL. Many of you have given me a helping hand and encouragement while I was getting this machine functional and it has been running well and a source of great joy while driving.
One thing that seems not quite up to snuff, however, is the transmission kickdown (or lack thereof)
This has pretty much been the same situation since I got it on the road and not some new issue. Its just that over the few months I have been driving it something just seemed not quite right.
When starting off the line I feel it should downshift better. Upon typical acceleration off the line it does not seem to shift to a lower gear. I can jam the pedal all the way and it shifts but in my opinion I think it should shift when I first leave a standing stop with typical pedal position.
Also, when moving I seem to need to “play” with the pedal to get some excitement out of the shifting. It moves out OK (better in power mode and even better with OD off) but no real down shift under normal acceleration. The car shifts fine when selecting gears manually.
I did verify the TPS adjustment and also checked the kickdown cable connector is plugged in. Not sure where to go with this and would appreciate some insight.
Maybe I’m just expecting too much out of this NA engine, but my 2009 forester kicks down more typically then this tranny does.
Again, it does run well and performs good except for this little perceived issue.
Thanks for any assistance.
