Continuing the discussion from V-belt style power steering belt tensioner replacement:
Hello, I was attempting to replace the power steering pulley tensioner bearing, I’ve taken out the c-clip and started hammering the middle part from the right side of the picture. Gave it some penetrating oil, but no luck. I’m I doing it correctly? Also what bearing size did you use to replace the old one?
@stealthee I’m not sure how to private contact people, but I seen that you responded to that post linked above last year, and I would appreciate your feedback. Thanks.
From what I can see you need to pull the pulley with the bearing, and leave the middle part you’re hammering. Once the pulley and bearing are off you just swap the bearing and reinstall.
Thank you for your feedback. Managed to get the bearing out, but the marking on the rubber seal where to corrorided to give me a marking. Do you know what bearing size you used by chance? ChatGPT recommended I get a 6202-13-2rs, although the typical size 6203-2RS standard. Might go down to a shop in LA in Cali to find the perfect match later this week.
I don’t know the size off the top of my head, but I can tell you that the majority of bearings come in standard sizes. If you measure the outside diameter of the entire bearing, as well as the inside diameter of the shaft hole and the width you will be able to match it up with the correct sizing to order. 6202 sounds like it could be right, but definitely verify the size.
The letters like RS, Z, o ZZ indicate the way the rollers are protected. ZZ means it has metal shields on both sides, Z means it has a metal shield on only one size RS means rubber seal on one side and 2RS means rubber seal on both sides. No letters usually indicates an “open face” bearing which is usually used in an application where the bearing is greased on a maintenance schedule.
You likely want a 2rs bearing so it is totally sealed.
