MAF Grid damaged

Hello guys,
last week I switched to an Apexi Power intake, replacing an old and pretty bad k&n filter.

I found the “grid” between the air filter and the maf in this condition (see photo).
Should I replace it or can I simply remove it? There are any pro/cons?

I would just leave it. The damage is minimal and not likely to restrict air flow.
